Scene trailer: Suriya's reluctant cop is the best joke in Jithu Madhavan's Tamil debut
The Aavesham director casts Suriya as DSP Inbaraj, a police officer who would rather stay home. In cinemas 6 November. Our trailer rating: 4/5.

Most screen cops want the case. Suriya’s would rather stay on the sofa. The makers of Scene, Jithu Madhavan’s first Tamil film, released its trailer on Saturday, and it introduces Suriya as DSP Inbaraj, a police officer who has decided to resign.
His superior, Stephen, played by Lal, keeps summoning him back. Inbaraj keeps ignoring him, until the police are sent to his home and carry him out, as reported by India Today, The Times of India and The Indian Express. Waiting on the other side is Naslen’s Eeswaran, described in the trailer coverage as a sharp and ruthless criminal, while Nazriya Nazim plays Maya.
Madhavan, the director of the Malayalam films Romancham and Aavesham, wrote and directed the film. Sushin Shyam composed the music. Suriya and Jyotika produce under 2D Entertainment and Zhagaram Studios. Scene opens in cinemas on 6 November, a day after Ramayana: Part One.
Our take on the trailer: 4/5
What works. Suriya playing it deadpan. After years of intense heroes, a cop who can barely be bothered is a genuinely fresh gear for him, and the trailer gets its biggest laughs from that indifference. Naslen’s villain looks like he is having a great time, and the cast around them promises the kind of eccentric ensemble Madhavan built Aavesham on.
What doesn’t. The mystery is still a blur; the trailer sells mood and characters, not a case. And the edit keeps stopping for on-screen credits, which blunts the comic rhythm.
This rating is Bloom Entertainment’s opinion of the trailer only. The film has not been released.
